5 Japanese Terms from One Week of News (13 - 17 July 2015)

I’m using the Bank of Japan’s press releases for the second consecutive week as the source for new Japanese finance vocabulary. The main section of vocabulary appeared in press releases issued by the bank between 13 through 17 July 2015.

Also, I’m starting a new section for the blog of Occupational Japanese.

The first Kanji in the main terminology is 国. Per jisho.org, the character means country and is included on the  JLPT N5.

Chinese Pronunciation: guó

Occupational Japanese

I recently came to own a copy of the U.S. War Department’s February 28, 1944 Japanese Phrase Book TM30-611. You know, Japanese for Occupiers. The material in the restricted publication are wonderfully out-of-place today.  For the next several postings, I’ll will pick out some of these Occupational Phrases for a bit of mid-1940s nostalgia.

For this posting: three Emergency Expressions from pages 2 through 6 from the War Department’s book.

We are American Soldiers.	我々はアメリカの 兵隊です。	われわれはアメリカのへいたい　です。
Are they our enemies?	彼等は敵ですか？	かれらはてきですか？
I am wounded.	怪我した。	けがした。
