Me and Social Media 2016 (March - May)

Social Media & Me March through  May 2016
Using a number of hits as a quantifier March-May 2016 was a success.
  • I exceeded my target of Twitter impression target for the 5th straight month.
  • My blog received more views than any prior month in May 2016 with 2,795 views.
  • My Klout score moved up to end May 2016 at 59.78

With the three above wins above, I see that my life-long Adsense earnings have grown to US$2.33. A 41 cent increase over the last 3 months. So, I must keep a day job.

Twitter

During the 91 days of March, April, and May I saw my first 11 1,000+ Twitter-impressions days.

My revised upward goal 10K+ tweet impressions for 6 of 12 months already has 5 months of the targeted six in 5 months, and I have a very high likelihood of reaching 10K+ impression in June 2016. June begins my Twitter account having with 291 followers.

Japanese & Chinese Terminology Tweets

The second wave of vocabulary-flash card tweets began in mid-May and is scheduled to end on 6 June. The third wave of retweets and new vocabulary would begin in September. The third wave will consist of new content and content only tweeted once.

A fourth wave begins 31 December 2016 using new and all previous content.This should provide a daily stream of tweets that would last at least 90 days.

Fintech Tweets

I’ve begun to curate content on FinTech through my Twitter feed with an attempt for regular postings at 6:06 AM US Central Time and 10:06 US Central Time.  The 6-minutes after the hour strategy is meant to place my tweets above the mass scheduled tweet times of on-the-hour.

Retweet Strategy

A very successful strategy in gaining greater engagement on Twitter has been to retweet my tweets about 36 hours later.  The audience at the different times are different and sometimes I find greater engagement with the retweet than with the original tweet.

Instagram

My Instagram account grew to over 700 followers. The biggest learning is that my audience prefers full frontal photographs of bonsai based on the higher number of likes such photographs obtain.

I kept a pace of at least a picture posting a day. However, I did not post any flora content videos in the month, so I still have 24 to make for the year.

YouTube

I posted two videos of museum presentations onto YouTube

Yet, I still have not begun my start of year goals, so I still need to do
  • 24 flora-content driven videos based on images that first appear on Instagram
  • 12 Telecommunications’ Industry related videos
  • 12 East Asian Language videos composed of flashcard images seen on Twitter/Sina Weibo. These videos will use thematic flashcards -- such as software terms, balance sheet terms, hardware terms….

Blogger

My Blogger account had done very well in increasing traffic for
  • March 2016: 2,542 views
  • April 2016: 2,470 views
  • May 2016: 2,795 views
The driving factors for increased views were more (a) Twitter activity to redirect traffic towards the blog and (b) using company names in the titles of the blog posts. Examples: Learn Chinese from Huawei and Learn Japanese from Nokia.

In fact the Learn Chinese from Huawei posting became my most viewed blog posting. Very quickly gaining more views than any posting I made in the  70+ weeks of prior blogging history.  I have no doubt that the post will be my first 1,000 view posting.

The point of it All

The point of all this social media activity is to raise my professional profile. The current goal is to reach a Klout Score of 60 in 2016. At the end of February 2016 my score was 58.34. At the end of May 2016 hit 59.78 down from a high of 59.9.
